Advice for Waitlisted Students April 5, 2012 Waitlisted students must be proactive in the college admissions process. Letters of enthusiasm are a must. Weve got some advice for waitlisted students. If youre a student who has been waitlisted and youre hoping to earn a spot at the college that put you in limbo, you must not do nothing. If you do nothing, there is little chance that youll earn your way off the waitlist and into the incoming class. Youve got to be proactive. Indeed the first thing that you should be doing is mailing that card back, informing the university that you wish to still be considered for admission. What you should then do is ask your high school guidance counselor who youve ideally established a great relationship with over the years to reach out to the regional admissions officer at the university that put you on the waitlist. That personal contact can go a long way! Your guidance counselor can express your continued enthusiasm for the school and find out what you can do to earn a place in the class. Maybe your guidance counselor can inform the admissions officer of a significant accomplishment of yours since you applied. Maybe youve since won a major science competition or bettered your 800 meter time to the point where the track coach now actually wants you for his team. All of this could change your admissions outlook immensely! But one of the most significant things you can do to help get off the waitlist is to write what we call a letter of enthusiasm. In this letter to the admissions office at the university that waitlisted you, let them know directly from you how much you still want to go to this school. Let them know why you love them so much. Let them know why youd be such a great addition to the incoming class. This is your opportunity to express your thoughts in your own words. So make the most of it! Dont just send any old letter. Psychological Perspectives On Mental Health Disorders

According to the world heath organisation (2010) â€Å"health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity†. When looking at the aspect of health most people will mention characteristics of physical health yet fail to include mental health. Psychological perspectives are the different ways in which psychologists look at individual’s behaviours, thoughts and feelings. Although some of the psychological perspectives are very different while others are similar and seem to overlap, it is important to note that there isn’t simply one correct perspective and that each of the perspectives has their strengths and weaknesses. In this essay I am going to look into the different psychological perspectives and how they offer us an understanding on behaviours that have an influence over our health I will however be primarily be focusing on mental health disorders. Although psychological perspectives may help us get an understanding of behaviours or show us ways that psychological perspective has helped create solutions that may ease symptoms, it wont fully explain them. The description given by the World Health Organisation is the most frequently used when trying to give an accurate description on health however it still contains some faults and receives criticism from some. Some question whether according to this description if it possible to be truly ‘healthy’ (Warwick-Booth, Cross Lowcock, 2012). Answer: Introduction Harley-Davidson Company is a firm that deals with the production of motorcycles, spare parts, and sale of riding costumes as well as licensing the use of its name and trademark by other companies such as those manufacturing clothes which include LOreals line of Harley-Davidson cologne. Transformation Harleys change came to effect after a drop in its market for the motorcycles. This was brought about by competition from the Japanese companies as well as accumulated debts which were included in the companys balance sheet. However, in the 1980s, the company was reborn and became successful due to; cutting down stock and costs hence enhancing quality control. There were improved production methods and co-operation between workers and the management. Additionally, investment in new models and machinery led to a broader market for its motorcycles. Harleys managers conducted a benchmarking to several Japanese car plants on the Just-In-Time system, whereby they later converted their operations to JIt. They came up with a production-scheduling program known as Materials-As-Needed. Tools and Techniques SWOT analysis explores a companys strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Harleys weakness was that he lagged behind when it came to improving his technology. However, the company too had some strengths that did outdo his competitors, he ventured in new products and came up with new models, attractive painting designs, and improving his engineering techniques. Nonetheless, Harley faced threats from his competitors such as Honda and BMW who manufactured both motorcycles and cars, unlike him who manufactured motorcycles only. PESTLE analysis considers factors affecting Harley which are Political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental aspects. Harley took a long time to adopt new technologies in the manufacture of motorcycles. He chooses the traditional designs thus his bikes looked old-fashioned. In a social perspective, Harley built better employee-employer relationship thus leading to job satisfaction and employee commitment. In an economic point of view, models developed by Harley were expensive thus the customers opted for cheaper products from other companies. Porters analysis focuses mainly on the competitors. Harley faced competitive rivalry from Honda and BMW who produced both cars and motorcycles making him loose some clients. (Schoenberg, Collier, Bowman, 2013). To improve his supplying power, Harley improved his distribution network and incorporated pre- and after-sales services to his clients, which he believed would increase demand for the motorcycles. Harley Principle Resources and Capabilities Principle resources determine the capacity of a firm. First, financial resources; Harley had his sales largely financed by loans from its financial services which was later retained on its balance sheet. Second, physical; the firm worked hard in improving its equipment painting designs and sale of spare parts. Thirdly, technology; Harley had less know-how of technology whereby he developed old-styled motorcycles. Fourthly, reputation; the firms primary customers were aging and bought new bikes less often. Lastly, human resources; the management buyout in Harley enhanced employee relationship, and workers became more committed. Recommendations Harley was left behind in adopting the new technology. He would have been in a position to cope with the rising competition if he adopted new technology. Secondly, he would come up with other substitutes of motorcycles as his competitors had done, allowing him to maintain his customers who would have opted for alternatives from the firm. Thirdly, he would have regulated the prices of his products to compete with those of his competitors. Conclusion Analyzing the firms strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats are essential in determining the areas to be improved for it to be successful and achieve its required goals. A PESTLE analysis is necessary to identify all the external factors that would influence the performance of Harley. Although I have never spent time in jungle, I used to watch a lot of national geographic channel in India.. But yes, I was quite intersted in the job.. KV: I was earning money when I was at work.. I was able to stay in wildlife sanctury.. I was able to fund my camera.. Wildlife and photography was more like a weekend passion for me.. I worked for 3 years at yahoo! I used to enjoy it.. I spent long hours at work.. At one point, I wanted a break.. So I took 2-3 months off.. I just wanted a time off.. So I decided to spend some time in jungle.. Kinabatangan River KV: The more time I spent in the jungle.. the more I became really passionate.. I was really fascinated by the whole concept of Jungle and nature etc.. There is a government of Karnata eco-tourism resort where I was a regular customer.. I told them that I wanted to spend a few weeks.. They said why not work with us.. So I started showing the tourists all the wildlife in the forest.. And that is how the journey started.. Lion with the kill KV: So.. I spent time in forest.. amidst the tigers the elephants.. I spent time with the tribals.. The whole thing was so fascinating and found that it was difficult to come back to a desk job.. So what was planned as a 3 month visit.. ended up for 1 year†¦ Me: Wow.. That is indeed quite a story! What about the money and livelihood.. How did you manage.. KV: Ofcourse thats the difficult part I was not earning.. Even the work with the resort was a free of cost work.. I wasnt making money there.. I was just burning savings.. But at the same time.. I didnt want to come back.. So I decided to do consulting.. I must admit I was very naive when I thought I could do 10 days a month of consulting.. I couldn’t do justice for both my consulting work and for my photography.. When I am with the tigers.. in the middle of forest.. I used to get phone calls about the projects.. And vice versa..
